Hello
I'm Ali and I am Lucy Aldridge's sister-in-law.
For the past eight months I have been, with the help of the nations knitters .... knitting furiously in RED, WHITE and BLUE to create a huge 13ft Patriotic Union Jack from knitted squares in the Memory of my much loved Nephew Rfn. Will Aldridge. There are 736 squares, which were donated from UK kniters and I collated them all into a huge pile and then set about stitching every single one together ...
Our efforts will shortly be put on show at various exhibitions around the country in Memory of Will. At the commencement of the UJ knitting project The William Aldridge Foundation was not formed and the monies raised will be distributed to other Army charities to include The Riflemans Fund ....
That said it's time now for me to start knitting for The William Aldridge Foundation ..... and I have recently launched a challenge on my blog
www.knitting4heroes.blogspot.com for knitters to donate green knitted patches and green knitted leaves. It is my aim to create a huge poppy wreath with a modern design in knitting with the deadline of Armistice Day 2010.
Knitters who wish to contribute any knitted patches in any colour of green, any pattern, and any textured yarns to about 6" or thereabouts are more than welcome.
I am also inviting ideas and suggestions about what to do with the wreath, and ways that we can raise funds for the foundation using what will be a unique piece of textile art.
Look forward to receiving your comments, Ali x
