SOLDIER'S MOTHER COMPLETES SKYDIVE
A BRAVE mother from Bredenbury leapt from a plane travelling at 13,000-feet to raise money for armed forces’ amputees on Saturday (September 25).
Lucy Aldridge, whose son William was killed in Afghanistan over a year ago, signed up with the Pilgrim Bandits charity for the nerve-jangling challenge at Netheravon, Wiltshire.
Although suffering from a fear of heights, Mrs Aldridge plucked up the courage to leap first from the plane and raise £600 for the charity.
She said: “It was fantastic. I would do it again in a heartbeat. On the day, everybody who was there just totally put me at my ease. It was a really strange experience because I had absolutely no fear at all once I was in the plane.”
Mrs Aldridge, who lives in Bredenbury with her two young sons, has spent almost every day since her son’s death raising funds for servicemen and women as well as the families of the fallen. William, who was just six weeks past his 18th birthday when he was killed by an improvised explosive device in July 2009, had dreamt of serving his country since he was a child.
The William Aldridge Foundation, which was set up by Mrs Aldridge to provide an information hub for soldiers and their families, will be officially launched at the Celtic Royal Hotel, Caernarfon, tomorrow evening (Saturday). To find out more visit williamaldridgefoundation.org.uk
